CD Baby - Wednesday, April 4th 2007
I love your "LONDON ARRINGTON: Between Lenox and 7th" CD so much I'm
going to feature it on the FRONT PAGE of CD Baby for a few days.
We're REALLY picky about what goes on the front page. We get about
150 new albums a DAY coming in here now, (about 150,000 total), and
yours is one of the best I've ever heard.
EDITOR'S PICK - OUR REVIEW -
While this collection of jazzy soul is decidedly modern, it's the
traces of retro vibes from the tremendous players that make it stand
out. While so many modern R&B albums are overly determined to showcase
a vocalist, this group does so with class, backing the singer up with
some musicians who can really pay tribute to the form. It's a reminder
of why soul involves such an important group dynamic: The front man
can't shine if his backing band isn't right there with him. Lucky for
us, these guys mesh and groove with ease, kicking out stimulating bass
lines and then smoothing them out with horn hits and solos that really
add to the arrangements. This isn't to take anything away from the
vocals, which are great to begin with but can't help but benefit from
that little extra punch that the band adds. This is soul the way it
should be, songs about love and life that take you out of that lull
and get your insides stirring.
